  • How does Restorative Pantry coaching work?
In the first few meetings, we work together to understand your goals and current roadblocks and create a custom plan built around what you will need to succeed. Along the way, we gather more information and adjust to keep you moving forwards. The two of us work together on the goals you have created for yourself. And we fine-tune along the way based on what is working well and what needs additional attention. We will meet on a weekly/fortnightly basis. We will examine what happened and what it means in each session. We will collaborate on what to do next based on the data we have gathered from your experience. Above all, you are the boss of your process and path. I am not here to tell you what to do; I am here as your guide, navigator, and support system. For me, it’s about you truly exploring and engaging with your experience, and I provide the best support possible during your journey. A coach doesn’t TELL you what to do; they SHOW you what to do by helping uncover what you are already doing so well, nudge you to do more, and help you develop the skills you will need to achieve your goals.
  • How long does a session last?
The initial session will be an hour. Follow-up or Check-in sessions on Zoom are 20-30 minutes, and we can shift that based on what you need. Some clients like it more or less, and we can discover that together. In-person sessions are generally 45 minutes.
  • What makes you qualified to help me?
I have Precision nutrition coaching Levels 1 and 2 and Level 2 Master coaching certificates. I have life experience in this area being middle age, a woman and athlete , and I am continually upgrading my skills in these areas. Maybe equally important, though, is that I take you and your goals seriously, and if I need to know something, I will make sure I find out. I am OK with not knowing everything, and I think about what we do here as learning together. Even if I knew everything there was to know about nutrition, I still don’t know everything about YOU yet. Many coaches have top-level education and experience but are not committed to supporting and learning about YOU.
  • I have failed before in achieving my goals. How can I trust that you will be different?
It can be hard to feel like you have had setbacks. Especially if you are in peri-menopause, it feels like you are fighting a hopeless battle. I like to look at it differently. You have tried and tried and tried over and over just to end up with the same results. That says a lot about your resilience and courage. It might help you to know that I use a behaviour-based approach that tries to get at WHY you might be struggling and HOW to work through those everyday challenges. We go slowly, one step at a time, with one or two weekly actions, and master that first. This helps you progress and build skills gradually so you feel confident at every step before you move on. This is not a quick-fix program but building a sustainable lifestyle.
  • What do you do differently than other coaches?
Well, I can’t speak for all the other coaches, but one thing I like to bring to the table is that I have a TON of enthusiasm and passion for the coaching approach that Precision Nutrition uses, which is a behaviour-based approach that builds skills one step at a time so that you can create sustainable habits and changes to your life.
  • How long does the program last? Do you require a minimum commitment?
NO, I don't require a minimum commitment, and I will tell you why: I found that for people who felt a little uncertain or who have never been to coaching, the ‘commitment’ felt like too much of a jump. It’s a funny human paradox: Sometimes, we need a sense of ‘open-endedness’ and an ‘escape hatch’ to feel safe committing. We build the relationship over time, and they stick around, but asking a lot at first is too much for some clients. So we did a monthly subscription model.
  • How will we communicate?
Typically, we will do a more in-depth check-in at our sessions, which we can do in person via Zoom or over the phone. Then, if you have questions or concerns, you can reach me by text or email Monday to Friday between 8 am-9 pm.
  • Do we communicate outside sessions?
Absolutely. Feel free to text me if anything comes up before 9 PM during the week. Just know that I turn my phone off at 9 PM and will receive your message the following day.
  • Will there be a meal plan provided?
No, meal plans, and that is good news! We don’t consider foods as good or bad. We will work together to determine what is best for you and your goals. I like to find different ways to make nutrition coaching easy and sustainable for my clients. While meal plans can give us the structure and rigidity of what to eat and how much to eat, many clients often prefer a different approach that fits into their lifestyle/family environment. We can explore your individualised meal plan as we understand your needs for support. While meal plans are standard practice in nutrition, I’ve found that they can be a little too restrictive with the day-to-day happenings of real life. We’ll work together to find a plan that works for you and your situation, and yes, it will include how to plan, prep and build meals to help you reach your goals.
  • Will I have to track food or count calories?
I like to use a straightforward approach that relies on using something you are already familiar with…. your hands. It has been shown to be just as effective with managing portion sizes and helping you reach your goals. We will talk more about this in future discussions, but I want you to know that you won’t have to track specific grams, ounces, or calories in food if you don’t want to.
  • When will I see the results?
Results vary from person to person. A lot depends on your goals, how many changes you make, and other factors like sleep, stress, and family commitments play a role. At the beginning of our client-coach relationship, I like to do a little exercise called “Want-Willing-Won’t.” What are you willing to do for your goal? And what WON’T you sacrifice for it? That exercise helps us set realistic expectations. For body change, we are looking at a range of possibilities. We can’t MAKE our bodies do things; we can only do the behaviours that, if done consistently, have a better chance of getting us where we want to go. And, even if we do all the behaviours, our bodies can only change so fast.
  • What do I expect from you?
That's an important question, especially as we consider working together. As you can see, I take my role in your journey very seriously, and we must understand all the time, effort, attention, and resources that go into something special like this. What's most important is keeping a growth mindset and staying consistent with the process. Sometimes, you might have second thoughts about what we are doing or why we aren’t moving fast enough. I ask that you keep an open mind and maintain honest and open communication throughout the process. Just keep showing up! Honestly, that's the essential piece.
